Police said they got the call at 6 p.m. Friday night. The caller told dispatch the parents were rushing their baby to a nearby hospital.

At last check, the child was in critical condition at OU Medical Center.

Moore police said the 19-month-old was shot.

“Right now, the parents are in shock, so we are going to pray for them it is a sad situation,” said Lieutenant Kevin Brown with the Moore Police Department.

The parents sprang into action and drove their child to the hospital. Police sent officers to meet them and sent another unit to the scene on Santa Fe near Southwest 19th St.

“We just saw all the police out here and then you know we just tried to go on the breaking news and see what happened, what was going on. Then we saw someone bring out a gun, so it got kinda scary,” said Latisha Adkins, a nearby neighbor.

Police said initial questioning led them to believe this was an accident. The child was shot inside a home.

“They are cooperating right now. We are believing this to be an accident. Like I said earlier the investigation is ongoing and we are still looking into it,” said Brown.

Neighbors said they haven’t witnessed anything like this and are praying for a speedy recovery.

“It’s just crazy sad…yeah like it’s a kid you just wouldn’t expect a 19-month-old baby to get shot,” said neighbor Cornelium Russell.

The child was initially taken to Moore Medical Center. After an examination, paramedics rushed the 19-month-old to OU Health.
