Almost 400 cyclists from all over the country came together on Friday to ride with their families and friends in the Black Wall Street 100.

The three organizers tell News On 6, this is their way of honoring the history of Black Wall Street while getting people together to enjoy a sport, open to everyone. Welcome to the very first of what organizers are hoping will be many, Black Wall Street 100 Bike Rides. Almost 400 cyclists were a part of this event on Friday, from here in Tulsa and beyond.

"With being a black cyclist that actually races in town, I just had to take this opportunity and be here," said Tulsa cyclist Milo Clark.

Dr. Heidi Lovett New Orleans Louisiana.

"You came from New Orleans!?," asked News On 6 Reporter Sawyer Buccy.
"Yes! For Black Wall Street and the....1921 Tulsa Massacre," said Dr. Heidi Lovett from New Orleans Louisiana, "In their honor, in the spirit and love of who our ancestors are and who we are supposed to be, we came down to ride to celebrate them."

Gay Eaton organized this event with two other people. She has been riding most of her adult life and wanted to bring this same joy to families across the community, but this is bigger than that.

"We wanted to commemorate the massacre- 100 years. We also wanted to bring attention to the health issues that plague the black community," said organizer Gay Eaton, "It is just something that everybody can become involved in."

The Tulsans we talked to said they were there to honor the history of Greenwood.

People from out of town told us they wanted to see Greenwood with their own eyes- after hearing so many stories this year on the news.
