Applications are now open for qualifying Oklahomans to sign up for SoonerCare online. SoonerCare is Oklahoma's Medicaid program which expanded after being voted through last year.

Supporters said this expansion will help nearly 200,000 Oklahomans with health care coverage.

To be eligible to apply for SoonerCare, residents must be between 19 and 64 years of age and have an income the is 138% of the federal poverty line or lower.

That's under $18,000 for individuals and around $36,500 for families of four.

Oklahomans approved the expansion in June 2020 through State Question 802.

If someone's application is approved, they will start receiving benefits July 1, and then in October move to managed care.

“It is an opportunity for them to go to the doctor, to be able to have the preventative care services that they desperately need,” Oklahoma Health Care Authority spokeswoman Melissa Richey said.

If someone isn't sure on their eligibility. The Oklahoma Health Care Authority said to go ahead apply to see if they are eligible or not.
