A ceremony to memorialize the victims of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre and honor World War II veteran and massacre survivor Mr. Huges Van Ellis will take place on Monday morning.

The Tulsa Community Remembrance Coalition, in partnership with the Equal Justice Initiative, will honor the remaining unknown victims of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre through its final soil collection, 100 years after the massacre took place.

Over the last two years, the two organizations have worked to honor the history and the lives of Black Wall Street through a series of soil collections. Each collection serves to memorialize the life of a 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre victim. On Monday, the final soil collection event will take place.

The event will include several special guests, including U.S. Representative Sheila Jackson Lee, distinguished Tulsans, members of the Equal Justice Initiative, members of the Human Rights Watch, members of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and others.

The public Memorial Day event will also honor survivors and descendants of the massacre who served in the nation's military.

The event will take place at 10 a.m. at Standpipe Hill near North Detroit Avenue and John Hope Franklin Boulevard in Tulsa.
