Wednesday is the last day of school for students who attend Oklahoma City Public Schools. Now, district leaders are turning their focus to summer programs.

This year has been a challenge for both students and staff. The focus this summer will be on getting kids back on track before the start of the fall semester. The summer programs are larger than they have ever offered before.

"We are looking at numbers that are triple what we would do in a normal year. And that is in in person alone,” OKCPS elementary director Shaun Ross said.

Ross said the district already has more than 2,600 elementary school students enrolled in summer programs. More than 800 middle school students and more than 700 OKCPS high schoolers are working this summer to earn credit.

The district’s Enhance program is going to be the face-to-face learning program. It will run four hours a day for four days a week through the months of June and July.

“We're going to work on basic skills and really fill some instructional and academic gaps, so that our kids can come back in August a little bit more prepared a little bit closer to where we need them to be and that we can get them on the pathway to success,” Ross said.

The district is also offering a virtual learning option called Jump Into Canvas. Throughout this virtual learning option, children will have the opportunity to earn rewards such as Sonic gift cards as they complete their work.

The district is also offering programs for students to participate in extracurricular activities such as athletics. There is also a partnership with the local science museum and Ballet OKC.

Each of these programs are at no cost to families.

Parents who are interested in any summer school opportunities will need to reach out to their local school or visit OKCPS’ website.

Transportation to summer camp locations will also be provided. Parents may need to transport child to the closest pickup location, but the district will take them to the camp location.

Here is a list of elementary summer school locations:

  1. Arthur
  2. Britton
  3. Cesar Chavez
  4. Esperanza
  5. Hawthorne
  6. Ridgeview
  7. Rogers
