The three people killed in Tuesday night's multi-vehicle crash in Guthrie have been identified. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the crash involved two semis and a pickup truck.
According to OHP, one semi driver was towing the other along Interstate 35, that's when the Chevy truck hit both of them.
The crash happened around 7:15 p.m., just one mile north of Waterloo Road in Guthrie.
Troopers told News 9, before the accident one of the semi's had a mechanical issue and that's when another driver came to help tow it away.
"That stretch of the interstate is not lit at night," Trooper Eric Foster said. "It's fairly flat right there."
Foster said moments later, a pickup truck hauling another trailer on it somehow collided with both semis.
"There was a large vehicle fire, and several vehicles were on fire," Foster said.
The smoke from the fire could be seen for miles. OHP said the driver of the pickup, Joshua Michael Hall, as well as another passenger, Jason Lingle, both died at the scene.
One of the semi drivers, Armando Espinosa Jr. who was outside his vehicle when the collision happened, also died.
"It affects all the families surrounding it," Foster said. "It's never a good thing when we hear of a fatal accident."
OHP said another passenger in the pickup was taken to a local hospital. He was treated and later released.
Though roads were slick, investigators said they're still uncertain what caused the crash.
