The Oklahoma Warriors Ice Hockey team will drop the puck on their first invitational tournament this weekend.

“We are not out here trying to claim youth or win the Stanley cup. We are a group of veterans playing the sport we love,” said Allen Moon with the Oklahoma Warriors Ice Hockey Association.

Men and women of the Oklahoma Warriors Ice Hockey team are hosting their first invitational.

They say how the score does not matter as long as the puck makes it in the net.

“Teams are coming down from St. Louis, Nebraska, and Dallas,” said Moon.

But there is deeper reasoning why this sport and team means so much.

“It’s very difficult when you transition to the civilian world,” said Kyle Rausch with the Oklahoma Warriors Ice Hockey Association. “Sometimes you get lost, and it is not as easy as people think.”

Just a little over a year and a half ago, a couple of former military men got together. Their goal is to give wounded or injured active duty and veterans an assist.

“Everyone’s got to work together. There’s a lot of team building that goes on with this sport,” said Moon.

There are just over 65 men and women a part of the team.

“With all different skill levels and backgrounds service backgrounds. Some are old like I am, and some are not,” said Moon.

The tornado alley invitational starts Friday night.

“We have been to a couple of tournaments. It’s been a lot of fun, and we decided we want to host one,” said Rausch.
