Sunbeam Family Services is looking for 100 volunteers for their senior engagement program.
Oklahoman’s 16 and older can help support by volunteering for at least one and a half hours per week to spend time with senior Oklahomans who may be feeling isolated during the pandemic.
“It can be things such as playing games with them. Maybe running some errands, just engaging them so that they don’t feel isolated which can lead to depression and many other thing,” Talena Ford with Sunbeam said.
It may even be as simple as helping them put together a puzzle, watching a movie, or giving the primary caretaker a break.
Sunbeam said if you’re looking for a way to give back this may be the program for you.
“An idea that recently came up was helping seniors meal prep. Maybe purchasing groceries, going in their home and working with them, just engaging them in communication while preparing their meals for the week,” Ford said.
It doesn’t take much to brighten a senior's day.
Anyone interested in helping volunteer can visit Sunbeam’s website or call 405-528-7721. Sunbeam requires a six-month commitment. They said most of their volunteers choose to stay on longer.
