Hot Meals Served, Warm Clothes Needed At Homeless Alliance

They were rolling Wednesday at the Homeless Alliance, preparing Thanksgiving meals.

Francis Tuttle lent a hand by cooking the turkey and baking pies. Staff and volunteers helping to package everything since all the meals were to go this year.

“We didn’t know if we could pull off a Thanksgiving meal this year at all. Thankfully, everyone is going to have a really great traditional meal," said Kinsey Crocker of the Homeless Alliance.

Speaking of traditions, another one is underway for the organization.

It’s their annual holiday adoption program, where people can buy gifts off wish lists of a newly-housed Homeless Alliance clients.

“Around the holidays we really want to make sure that those folks have something to unwrap. That they feel loved," Crocker said.

Steven Gage knows just how important that is.

He’s working in the new Curbside Flower Shop now, but there was a time when his wish list was fulfilled in a big way.

“My donor said, 'OK, what do you really want?' And I was like, 'a laptop.' And they bought me this really cool Dell Chromebook," Gage said.

A gift that, for Gage, cannot be measured in dollars.

“It’s just priceless to know that people are thinking about you,” he said.

The Homeless Alliance said they are actually ahead of schedule for adoptions this year, but there is still a great need.

Twenty-eight Curbside Chronicle vendors are still up for adoption and the Homeless Alliance needs new warm clothing accessories since overnight shelter space is limited.
