High school and college anglers were tested on the water Sunday during the Quantum NextGen Open at Grand Lake.

About 70 teams from Oklahoma and several other states competed in the bass fishing tournament. A majority of the anglers said the fish shut off in the afternoon.

"I've done it my whole life. It's addicting," said Bluejacket High School senior Shelbie Baker. "We started off OK in the cooler weather, once it got hotter the fish just stopped biting."

RSU's Tanner Bracken and Tyler Dunlap won the college division with nearly a nearly 12 pound bag. Garrett Barton and Braeden Langford from Wagoner High School won the high school division. They caught their 5 bag limit for more than 19 pounds. They also landed the biggest bass of the day.

“Giant Bass, come on throw that big one in there,” tournament director Joe Davis said on the stage. That's one's gonna come in at 5.89. That's the new big bass for high school too."

Major League Fishing Pros Matt Lee and James Watson, who are part of the Quantum team, were there to share some of their tips and tricks with the young anglers. Unlike most other tournaments, registration for the Quantum NextGen Open is free and every angler walked away with a new Quantum rod. The top 10 finishers in each division left with some great fishing gear from a number of companies.

This was the fourth year for the tournament and organizers are already starting to plan for the fifth NextGen Open.
