About a third of students in Oklahoma attend school in a rural school district and 3rd District Congressman Frank Lucas wants them to have the same opportunities to succeed as their urban and suburban counterparts.

Lucas's Rural STEM Education Act would put $21 million toward giving those districts the tools they need provide high level education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

“To make sure, whether you go to school in Shidler, Boise City, Braden, Oklahoma, that you have an opportunity to develop the skills in public school that you can then have the ability to pursue these to the next level,” Rep. Lucas said. “With 1 million STEM jobs coming open over the course of the next decade, that’s the biggest growth area in the country.”

The bill is expected to pass with a simple voice vote later Wednesday afternoon.
