A suspect was arrested late Tuesday night after huffing aerosol chemicals and ramming his car into a police cruiser during a standoff in Northwest Oklahoma City.

“It looked like he was huffing some kind of aerosol chemicals, as he seemed to be completely out of touch with reality,” said Captain Jeff Spruill with the OKC Police Department.

Police said they found the man in his pickup truck near Northwest 23rd Street and North May Avenue around 11 p.m. They said officers had checked on him earlier in the day, but everything seemed fine. When officers checked up on him later that night, he refused to get out of the car.

“Officers set up around him, began trying to communicate with him,” said Captain Spruill. “At one point he put his truck in reverse, drove back, and actually rammed a police car then drove forward again.”

Police said they had to use “less lethal” methods to get him into custody.

No names have been released.

This is a developing story.
