More than 27,000 mail-in absentee ballots were requested for this election, four times the usual number, the Tulsa County Election Board reported.

The Tulsa County election board had 192 precincts open on Tuesday with some new workers. 200 new workers answered the call so that older precinct workers could stay home.

On Tuesday, the election board worked through all of the absentee ballots they've received - more than 17,000 returned by mail through election day.

27,000 were sent out, which is four times the usual amount for an August election.

The election board picked up the mail four times Tuesday and each batch had more than 600 ballots that will be added to the in-person votes cast today, and the early votes cast last week.
