City Of Tulsa To Announce Street Light Project Plans

The City of Tulsa is announcing plans Wednesday morning for a new streetlight project in Tulsa.

Mayor G.T. Bynum and District 2 City Councilor Jeannie Cue are holding a news conference to announce when the project will start. It's set for 9:30 on the west corner of Delaware at East 89th Street.

News On 6 reported in late 2019 the city had put money in the budget to start installing more lights along city streets with the goal of making neighborhoods safer. At the time the city said $25,000 would go toward installing unfulfilled streetlight requests that go back several years.              

Tulsa recently lifted a moratorium on new streetlights in residential areas. In December the city said 137 streets were on the list for new lights.

The city has already been installing lights around schools, which is part of a separate fund and project.

"We are making Tulsa a safer place for kids to walk to school,” Bynum posted on social media. “Thanks to the voters, we are making school safety improvements across Tulsa and have now completed projects at 34 schools, with more on the way."

The City of Tulsa will pay for the electricity to run the all the new streetlights.
