Russell Westbrook Producing Docuseries About Tulsa Race Massacre

A former Oklahoma City Thunder player is hoping to shed light on a dark part of Tulsa's history.

Russell Westbrook spent 11 years in Oklahoma City playing for the Thunder before joining the Houston Rockets.

And Westbrook will now add the title of Executive Producer to his resume, as he is set to help create the docuseries "Terror In Tulsa: The Rise and Fall of Black Wall Street.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the project will chronicle the deadly massacre that happened between May 31 and June 1, 1921.

During that time more than 300 African Americans were killed when Black Wall Street was set on fire by a white mob.

When Westbrook first learned about the Tulsa Race Massacre, he said he knew it was a story he wanted to tell.

Westbrook stated that it's important that we uncover the buried stories of African Americans and amplify them now more than ever if we want to create change.

NBA star LeBron James is also producing a documentary about Black Wall Street.

Neither project has set release dates.
