Drivers merging from northbound Interstate 235 to westbound Interstate 44 will have to come to a complete stop starting Wednesday morning.
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation says this will impact drivers through the rest May.
Flaggers will be in the area that drivers will need to pay attention to when they are stopping. These flaggers will help direct traffic on the ramp, and also alert drivers to new signage that shows the changes.
These changes will give construction crews more room to install new bridge beams at the junction.
This is just part of a multi phase plan at I-235 and I-44.
"This is northbound I-235 to westbound I-44, which is one the biggest flyover ramps. There are around 11 bridges in this project and this is one of the longest ones," says Terri Angier from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.
If drivers are looking for alternate routes, they include I-35, I-40, the Lake Hefner Parkway and Martin Luther King Avenue.
The entire project at I-235 and I-44 will last through 2021. Drivers can expect to see different closures periodically as construction continues.
