Body Cam Video Shows Arrest Of Man Who Threatened Police With A Gun

Jason Leroy Lawrence was arrested after police said he stole beer from a gas station and then threatened them with a gun.

Store clerks at the 7-Eleven at Northwest 23rd St. and North MacArthur Blvd. described a man who tried to walk out with beer without paying.

A 9-1-1 caller said an employee tried to stop the man, but he threatened them with a 10-inch knife.

As the suspect went down 23rd St., the caller told dispatchers an off-duty officer saw what happened and followed the man until OCPD caught up with them.

Lawrence had a golf club in his hands. When officers arrived, they told Lawrence to drop it multiple times.  

The scene escalated further when Lawrence was caught on an officer’s body camera telling them he also had a gun.

Officers tasered Lawrence to the ground and arrested him.

Lawrence faces two charges for assault with a deadly weapon and larceny.
