President Obama commuted the sentences of 61 inmates on Wednesday, including a man from Okmulgee.
Herbert Lewis, Junior, 50, was convicted of two counts of possession with intent to distribute cocaine. On March 7, 2003, a federal judge sentenced him to 20 years in prison, 10 years of probation and a $2,500 fine.
His original sentence ran until February 13, 2024. The president commuted his sentence so that it will now end on July 28, 2016. The commutation also dissolves the unpaid balance of the fine.
According to the U.S. Federal Bureau, Lewis is housed at the Federal Transfer Center in Oklahoma City.
All of the inmates whose sentences the president commuted on Wednesday are drug offenders.
