As downtown Tulsa grows, so does the need for increased public safety. With that in mind, the Tulsa Police Department turned an empty space downtown into a new office.

It is just a few hundred square feet of space near 4th and Main in Downtown Tulsa but it will be a big help to officers with the Downtown beat.

“It keeps them on the streets on a more regular basis and keeps our officers in downtown as opposed to traveling to the Gilcrease Division headquarters,” said DCC Executive Director Brian Kurtz.

The hub will not initially be manned at all times instead used as a place for officers to write reports and have an area to work out of during special events.

“It's really set up to interact with the public and long-term our plan is to eventually have someone staffing,” said Major Wendell Franklin.

Once it is staffed police say it is in the prime location Downtown for people to stop in.

“It will be great for people to go get information, fill out a police report or ask any security type questions or safety type questions,” said Major Franklin.

And Major Franklin says as that growth continues so will the need for the stronger police presence to continue Downtown

“I know that is a priority to start staffing that downtown area more so on the night time and the weekends,” said Major Franklin.

TPD has had similar hubs in the past but said the locations were never prime this one is expected to work out wonderfully.
