EDMOND, Okla. -- Edmond Police are looking for a woman who has allegedly been trying to pass stolen checks around the metro. She's been successful in a few attempts, but she's also been captured on camera in the act.

Police aren't sure who actually stole the checks, but there's no dispute about who's using them. The victim said he was stunned when he saw the pictures and heard the story the suspect tried to get away with.

Police said the woman was trying to use a stolen check at a local metro supermarket. The checks actually belonged to a man named Bill Ruhman.

"I got a call from Crest Market in Midwest City, and they said someone was there trying to cash a check," Ruhman said. "I said, ‘It's not me, you better call the police'."

Ruhman said he was moving from a house in Edmond to another home a few blocks away and somehow left a door unlocked. Within minutes someone had walked in and taken the checks.

"She said she was my daughter and that I was out in the car in the parking lot, and they asked for additional identification and she said, ‘I'll go get my dad,' and so she left, she got in her car and drove off, Ruhman said.

Ruhman said he has several daughters, but the woman caught on video is not one of them. He doesn't recognize the woman.

After being alerted by the supermarket Ruhman notified Edmond police.

"It's disheartening that you can't leave your house and leave your things in your house, and come home and they still be there," Glynda Chu with the Edmond police said.

Although the woman was stopped at the Crest Store she did manage to get away with passing some of the checks at area Wal-Marts.

Ruhman didn't lose any money because the account was closed years ago; however, the stores that accepted the checks lost several hundred dollars.

If you have any information regarding the woman's identity, Edmond police are asking you call their Crimestoppers at 359-4466.
