OKLAHOMA CITY-- Going back to school can be expensive for parents, but The Urban League hosted an event on Saturday to help metro parents.

The Back to School Bash was filled with music, lots of games and even crafts. But more than a good time, these kids got a good start to the new school year.

"Start the community out on a healthy note by getting the kids ready for school with backpacks, school supplies, free immunications, free health screenings, free things for the family," said Valerie Thompson of the Urban League of Greater OKC.

The Urban League sponsored this event as a way to help families with the financial burden of headed back to class.

"We had way more kids than we anticipated showing up today. We anticipated about 500 people and we are overwhelmed by the people who have shown up today," said Pat Tisdale, who works for the Urban League of Greater OKC.

Kids had their fingerprints made and their hair cut, but the most important thing was excitement about school and their education.

"It's the only education you get in life, the only thing you get in life," said Bryan Domingeuz, who attended the Back to School Bash.

The Urban League of Greater Oklahoma City offers a number of services throughout the year.
