OKLAHOMA CITY -- Eight NBA teams have a special spot to stay when they come to town. Many of the teams are repeat customers.
The players and coaches feel right at home at the Colcord Hotel.
An historic landmark in the heart of the city the Colcord Hotel's a prime spot for NBA stars from all over the country.
"They do see so many hotels and so many of the same things over and over, we hope they leave here and go, ‘That was a great hotel,' or, ‘That was a unique hotel,' or, ‘something different that we don't get to do very often'," Colcord General Manager Jeff Erwin said.
After undergoing a $16 million renovation project, the Colcord opened two years ago, with a little something specifically designed for the NBA.
"In the beginning it was really aimed toward the NBA," Erwin said. "What we have found, though, we have guests who are frequent guests that really enjoy these."
The Colcord holds 10 rooms that have king beds 15 inches longer than a standard king bed.
The rooms with extra long beds are more spacious, the perfect size, since the average NBA player is around six feet seven inches tall.
"Extra leg room, extra length just makes it a more comfortable stay for a tall guy," Erwin said.
The hotel is making 10 more rooms NBA friendly.
"To accommodate more of the teams who are coming to stay with us," Erwin said. "To have 10 is great, but it they need 12, we want to be able to provide 12."
This season, eight teams will eat and sleep at the Concord and many have done so before.
"Many of the visiting teams that came to play have rebooked with us for this year to play against the Thunder, and that, I think, is the ultimate compliment that someone chooses to come back," Erwin said.
It takes 40 rooms to accommodate a team. The rooms with extra long beds run between $130 and $220.
