DEL CITY, Okla. -- A 16-year-old Del City student was killed in a car crash over the weekend. Monday, classmates reacted to her tragic death.
"It was just sad to hear about it. I was just like, 'Oh my God.' It was freaky," student Morgan Muise said.
Brittany Althoff was killed in a three car crash late Friday night. A car was speeding and crashed into the back of the car Althoff was riding in, causing the vehicle to swerve in front of a van. The impact with the van caused Althoff's car to overturn.
"She was a good girl. She was sweet. She was just a good friend to everybody," Muise said.
Many students sought counseling Monday after they heard the news.
"It's not just the students who are grieving, but it's also the faculty here because Mid-Del is a family. And we are a close-knit community. When one of us hurts, we want to be there to support them and encourgae them along the way," counselor Jan Morris said.
The honor society at Del City High School is currently raising funds for the family.
Police were able to find the driver, who fled the scene after hitting Althoff's car Friday night. Investigators conducted a lengthy interview with him. The driver was not arrested, but the findings are being turned over to the District Attorney's office to determine if any charges should be filed.
