OKLAHOMA CITY - Two runaway teenagers who are suspected of stabbing an Oklahoma City man were arrested Tuesday in Texas.
Brittany Herrera, 15, and her boyfriend Matthew Fox, 17, were arrested in the Forth Worth, Texas area, Oklahoma City Police Sergeant Paco Balderrama said.
"The information came through a tip, saying these two individuals were at a Denny's," said Oklahoma City Police Sergeant Paco Balderrama.
Herrera's father, Leroy Herrera, was found stabbed to death Saturday night.
"I can tell you there was a significant amount of money missing from her mother's purse at the time they went on the run," Sergeant Balderrama said. "I'm sure that facilitated their travel down to Texas."
According to a court affidavit, Fox threatened he "would cut the victim's throat" as recent as a week ago.
Fox was upset about the way Leroy Herrera was always "fussing" at his 15-year-old daughter, Brittany, the affidavit stated.
The affidavit also stated, officers found "two backpacks containing clothing, medication, knives, mobile phones and a previously used Greyhound ticket" in Brittany's room.
Arrest warrants have been issued for Brittany Herrera and Fox, who had been staying in her room for two weeks without her parents' knowledge, the stepson told police. Neither has been charged.
The medical examiner's office said Herrera was stabbed twice in the neck.
