EDMOND, Oklahoma -- A man who injured two Edmond police officers has been arrested in Harrah, police spokeswoman Glynda Chu said.

Joseph Dylan Janis, of Edmond, was arrested by Oklahoma County Sherriff's deputy near Harrah. Chu said the 18-year-old was involved in an altercation Wednesday morning that left two Edmond police officers injured.

An officer responded to a parked car on the Interstate 35 service road near 33rd Street at about 4:45 a.m. The officer soon called for backup, police spokeswoman Glynda Chu said.

The suspect started to fight Officer Josh Smith and Sgt. Tony Hill inside the vehicle, Chu said. As the officers were exiting the vehicle, the suspect gained control of the vehicle and sped off, dragging Officer Smith for several feet.

Sgt. Hill shot at the vehicle as it sped away. He was struck by the fleeing vehicle.

Officer Smith, who was dragged, was treated at the scene for his injuries. He is recovering from his injuries at home.

Sgt. Hill was taken to INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center for injuries sustained during the fight, Chu said. Sgt. Hill is on routine administrative leave and is also recovering at home from the injuries he sustained during the altercation with Janis.

Chu said Janis was injured during his arrest, but the extent and location of his injuries are unknown. Janis was transported to a local hospital.
