OKLAHOMA CITY -- The husband of a woman murdered in her northwest Oklahoma City home appeared before a grand jury Tuesday and spoke to the media for the first time since his wife's death.

Teddy Mitchell, a well-known sports bookie, walked out of court looking emotionally exhausted. He fought back tears, telling reporters he was going home to see his 1-year-old daughter.

"How nice is it still having her here?" a reported asked Mitchell.

"I don't want to say nothing about it," Mitchell said.

Several people who have been called to testify before the grand jury have said they are afraid to because of Mitchell's ties to the gambling world.

But Mitchell's own testimony appeared to weigh most on his mind.

"It's difficult for Teddy because of having to go back and remember all that. Yeah, that part was rough," said Bob Jackson, Mitchell's attorney.

On Tuesday, grand jurors heard from Mitchell and his son, Daniel, who found his stepmother beaten to death inside her closet last November. Julie Mitchell's baby daughter was in a pool of blood next to her body.

"It's a mystery to my client who did it. He was traumatized by having to go in there and see his stepmother the way she was and pick up the little infant," said Scott Adams, Daniel Mitchell's attorney.

The Mitchells' attorneys can't reveal what was said behind the closed doors, but they said they hope it helps solve Julie's murder.

"We came forward with everything we knew about everybody and everything, and hopefully we've given them some information that can help them solve this," Adams said.

Police confirmed they are continuing to receive tips, including anonymous letters sent to local media outlets, but so far, they have not arrested anyone or named a suspect.
