ELGIN, Oklahoma -- A large grassfire burning near Elgin forced the Oklahoma State Highway Patrol to temporarily close part of the H.E. Bailey Turnpike.
Troopers shut down southbound lanes of Interstate 44 at mile marker 55 Wednesday afternoon when the flames jumped the interstate. Smoke in the area is also heavy, making it difficult for drivers to see.
SkyNews9 flew over the scorched area, spotting at least two structures destroyed by flames. The fire appeared to be mostly contained by 4:15 p.m.
