Ashley Harris, the wife of Chargers defensive lineman and former OU Sooner Tommie Harris, died Sunday night at the age of 29.
Harris reportedly died of either a stroke, heart attack or brain aneurism after being hospitalized Friday night in Oklahoma.
The Chicago Sun-Times first reported Harris' condition on Sunday afternoon after talking to a family friend about the situation.
Yahoo sports reported Monday afternoon that Ashley was found unresponsive on Friday.
Tommie and Ashley were married in January according to the report and the couple has two children, one of which was born four months ago.
Ashley gave birth to their second child four months ago.
While at the University of Oklahoma, Tommie was a consensus All-American in 2003 after being named to three All-America teams as a sophomore in 2002.
Harris played in 13 games for the Chargers this season. Before that, he played for the Chicago Bears from 2004-2010.
Harris became the 12th Oklahoma player to be a finalist and the third to win the Lombardi Award in 2003. The junior from Killeen, Texas, won the recognition as the nation's top college lineman. Harris anchored the Sooner defense that was near the top of virtually every statistical category in 2003. Harris recorded 37 tackles, including 10 for losses, five sacks and a fumble recovery. He bypassed his senior season to make himself eligible for the 2004 NFL Draft.
Harris was the 14th overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears. He played for the Bears through the 2010 season and signed a one-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts but was later released in mid-September of 2011.
Later that month, Harris was picked up by the San Diego Chargers where he saw action in 13 games this season recording three sacks.
Former Bears teammates expressed their condolences to Tommy via the team's Twitter page saying: "Condolences to former #Bears DT Tommie Harris on death of his wife, Ashley. Sending prayers to u, Tommie."
The official cause of death has not been released but News 9 will update as more details become available.
