Girl Spends Independence Day Helping OKC Homeless

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Outside the City Rescue mission, Makayla Geary and her family offered up sack lunches, cold water, and prayer. The idea to feed the homeless came after Makayla went on a mission trip to New Orleans.

"They were telling us we need to live beyond our church and do things on our own," Makayla said.

Makayla asked her mom if she could help the homeless in Oklahoma City, and together, she and her mom made about 60 lunches to hand out.

The family said in return, they received a better understanding of what the homeless population experiences. They plan to hand out more lunches in a month.
