A 12-year-old girl was enjoying a swim Sunday afternoon at the pool at Studio 6 Motel in Midwest City when she spotted a young boy sinking under the water.
Alie Stewart screamed for mother, Sharla. Sharla ran to the water, jumped in, and pulled the boy onto the pool deck and started performing CPR on the child. Sharla said the boy was unconscious and unresponsive. She sent her daughter to call 9-1-1.
"He was facing down, he wasn't breathing. It just looked very shocking," Alie said.
"As I was grabbing that boy, to me it felt like I was grabbing one of my babies and um I knew I was going to do anything I could to save his life by all means possible. I wasn't going to quit," said Sharla. "He was limp. He was initially dead. He didn't have any movement. His heart wasn't beating. He was just slouched over like a like a dead body."
Within minutes, police and paramedics raced up to the scene. Alie ran back to the pool and watched as her mom tried to save the boy.
"I felt like she was my hero, watching her save somebody's life," Alie said.
Sharla credited her daughter Alie as the real hero.
"If it wasn't for her saying something, it could have been a matter of seconds, a matter of minutes before anybody noticed and those seconds and minutes count."
During the emotional ordeal, the 12-year-old girl's quick actions made all the difference.
"I feel very, very, um, I feel good about it because I feel like I saved somebody's life," Alie said.
Sharla told News 9 friends of the boy told her he was recovering in the hospital Sunday night. Sharla and Alie don't know the boy, and News 9 is still checking to find out his name and age.
