Norman Police arrested a man late Wednesday night accused of driving drunk and slamming into a police patrol car.
Around 11:30 p.m., Sgt. Jason Simpson was blocking the southbound exit lane from Interstate 35 to Highway 77 due to an earlier collision. He was sitting inside the patrol car with his emergency lights activated when a car suddenly crashed into his vehicle.
Police say 25-year-old Christopher Andrew Lumspen drove his 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier into the back of Sgt. Simpson's patrol car. Both Lumpsen and Sgt. Simpson received only minor injuries, but their vehicles were heavily damaged.
Lumspen was arrested and booked into the Cleveland County jail for driving under the influence. Police say he had a blood alcohol level of .18, more than twice the legal limit.
