Some Oklahoma children will be getting presents from police this Christmas.

Oklahoma deputies, as well as police officers from Oklahoma City and Midwest City, went shopping on Friday. They're helping volunteers buy gifts for children being raised by their grandparents.

The sheriff says almost 700 kids will get gifts, and most ask for basic necessities, like clothing.

"While it's kinda neat because they aren't really into the materialistic things, it's also a sad commentary that's what these kids really need," Sheriff Joe Whetsel said.

The sheriff told News 9 those needs will be met, and then some. He took his grandson with them for an expert opinion on what toys to buy.
