A man playing disc golf at a metro park was robbed at gunpoint over the weekend in Norman, and police are looking for the person responsible.

Twenty-one-year-old Ryan Milam is used to playing disc golf by himself at parks all over the metro. He plays several times a week, and he's never had any problems until Saturday morning, when he was robbed by a masked man wielding a crowbar and a gun.

It was supposed to be a routine round of disc golf Saturday morning at Lions Park Northeast in Norman.

"I do it for exercise and for fun," said Milam. "I go a lot by myself. I go in the mornings a lot."

It was around 10 a.m. when Milam saw a man with a couple Frisbees waiting on a park bench.

"He was talking on the phone so I asked him if I could play through and he said, ‘yeah that's fine. I'm waiting on some other people,'" Milam said.

Milam said the man had glasses on and a bandana over his face. At first, he didn't really think anything of it.

"I play through again, I see him on the next hole, the third hole," said Milam. "at this point I'm thinking this is really weird, just odd that he's skipping holes, just not normal."

The man was still on his phone when Ryan threw his next shot.

"And I turned around to pick up my Frisbees, the rest of my discs, and he had a gun pointed at my head, really close to my face, and he had a crow bar in the other hand," Milam said.

The gunman told Milam to empty his pockets. He got away with his cell phone, wallet and about $400 worth of Frisbees.

Milam's hoping his story will remind others in the community to be cautious.

"It's not very common at all," said Milam. "I've never feared for my life or been scared at any disc golf course, even when I was by myself."

At some point, the thief dropped Milam's phone, and he did get that back.

People in the disc golf community have reached out to Ryan, giving him Frisbees and even a new golf bag.

The thief is described as a white man, about 6 feet tall, and weighs about 180 pounds. He's in his early 40s.

Anyone with information on this crime should call Norman police.
