Police say the suspect, later identified as 54-year-old Aline Marie Williams, and a male accomplice tried to rob a man at JRS Travel Center at E. Reno and Martin Luther King Avenue around 6:15 a.m. Tuesday. Witnesses said a truck driver jumped in to stop the attack, and that's when Williams got into a black Chevrolet Blazer and drove away, leaving her accomplice, 60-year-old Sammie Nugent, behind.
Police pursued Williams. The chase lasted just a few minutes, and then Williams lost control of her vehicle about a mile away from the truck stop. She crashed into a vacant building that used to be a thrift shop at N.E. 18th Street and MLK. She was severely injured in the crash and died at the scene.
Police say Williams had previously been in prison for armed robbery. She was released from prison in June, 2011 and was on probation at the time of her death.
Nugent is being held in the Oklahoma county jail on a robbery complaint. Police say Williams and Nugent are both considered transients.
