Canadian County deputies arrest two men from California after discovering they were transporting 130 pounds of marijuana.
Alex D. Brause, 36, of Alderpoint, California and Paul T. Jager, 55, of Carlotta, California were arrested on numerous drug related charges after being stopped in their rental car along I-40 west of El Reno.
A deputy pulled the pair over after he noticed the driver make an unsafe lane change. When the deputy approached the car, he smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the passenger side. The deputy searched the car and found four large duffel bags full of marijuana.
"Because the deputy could clearly smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, no need for a drug dog, or search warrant existed," said Randall Edwards, Canadian County Sheriff. "The odor was enough probable cause for my deputy to search the vehicle."
Both men were transported to the Canadian County Jail, and will be facing a number of charges once the case is presented to District Attorney's Office. The marijuana pulled from the vehicle is believed to be a very high grade known as "Hydro" with a street value around $650,000.00.
The marijuana was transported to the Sheriff's Office and weighed in at 130 lbs. Both men were booked in and charged with Manufacturing and Drug Trafficking. Their bond was set at $150,000.00 each.
