A fight between a boyfriend and girlfriend ends in murder, this after witnesses say the boyfriend severely beat his girlfriend with his fists and bricks and left her for dead.
The horrible attack has left the woman's friends and family stunned. They tell News 9 they knew her boyfriend often beat her, and they tried to encourage her to break free. But now she's dead, and he's being held here at the Oklahoma County jail, accused of first-degree murder.
OKC police arrested 31-year-old Corey Ladaun Brown Thursday night. They were called out to the 800 block of SW 56th Street in reference to a heated disturbance. When they arrived they found paramedics working on 21-year-old Tiffany Sams.
"She was a wonderful girl," said her father, Joseph Gray. "I mean everyone has their own problems but she was working through it and she was trying really hard."
Gray is heartbroken over the death of his daughter. He says he knew his daughter's boyfriend Corey, but never thought he would be capable of something like this.
"I mean it was brutal," said Gray. "The man showed no remorse. He didn't care about her at all."
Turns out Corey Ladaun Brown has a long rap sheet and is registered as a violent offender.
"He looked me in the eye and told me he was going to take care of her," said Angel Gray, Tiffany's 17-year-old sister. "And I guess that was his way of taking care of her."
Angel Gray says Tiffany tried to break things off with the Brown, but that she kept going back, despite the abuse. And she never filed a victim's protective order.
"She was too afraid to," said Gray.
Angel Gray says Brown threatened to kill the entire family if she did. But she says a new boyfriend did file a police report in Del City against Brown in June, and that it may have cost Tiffany her life.
"He knew he was going to go to prison for a long time," said Gray. "So I guess that he got really mad at her and I guess decided to kill her."
This grieving father has this piece of advice to anyone who's loved one may be in an abusive relationship.
"If you sense anything's wrong, get them out of there protect them while you can," Gray said. "Because someday when it comes down to it, you might not have a chance."
Tiffany Sams passed away just before 9 a.m. Friday at a local hospital. The family has donated Tiffany's organs and hope that will at least help save someone's life. And that way they will know a piece of Tiffany will live on too.
