Soccer teams from Clinton High School and Oklahoma Christian School set aside the final score to help one player fulfill his dream.
Fermin Galvin, 14, is in his first year playing for Clinton. Galvin is a special needs student who probably won't see much action this year.
During a recent scrimmage against OCS, Clinton Assistant Coach Gene Ray asked OCS if they'd let Fermin score a goal. OCS gladly obliged, and Galvin kicked a penalty kick squarely in the net.
“The root of sports is life lessons,” Coach Ray said Wednesday as his team practiced. OCS Assistant Coach John Wilkens said his team was glad to do it. “What was amazing to see is our players react and just kind of cheer with them and their entire group of fans erupted in joy.”
