Dry, Windy Weather Again Fueling Grass Fires Around The Metro

Another dry, windy day in Oklahoma is making for another day of battling grass fires for metro fire crews.

A large grass fire erupted on the northwest side of the metro, in the 4500 block of NW 164th St., between State Highway 74 and N. Meridian Ave. Crews are working furiously to get this fire under control, as it is burning in the direction of the Lone Oak Village housing addition. Also in the area is Deer Creek Elementary school. 

Students at Deer Creek Elementary who live in the Lone Oak neighborhood are being held, and no buses ran while crews battled the blaze. Just before 3 p.m. crews reported having a handle on the fire. Some assets will remain in the area to monitor hotspots. No homes were damaged and no injuries were reported.

Around 4 p.m., firefighters were called out to battle a fire near E. Reno Ave. and State Highway 270 in Harrah. According to reports, this fire may have ignited from a car and spread to surrounding fields. Approximately three acres of land has burned.

Crews were also called out to the scene of a small grass fire in a rural area east of the metro, south of the Turner Turnpike and Arcadia Lake, around 1 p.m.

The fire was located in the backyard of a home in the 12600 block of Old Country Rd. That fire was controlled quickly and did not cause any damage.
