One child was killed following an automobile-pedestrian crash on the southwest side of the metro, Thursday afternoon.
Emergency crews were called out to the crash located near SW 59th St. and S. Blackwelder Ave. Authorities completely blocked off SW 59th St. while crews worked the scene.
OKC Police spokesperson Travis Vernier says the 5-year-old boy was transported from the scene in critical condition to OU Medical Center. The driver of the vehicle has been detained, and will be facing traffic-related charges.
Oklahoma City Fire Department spokesperson Benny Fulkerson tells News 9 the child was transported to a local hospital with "significant injuries". At 5:30 p.m., Fulkerson said, despite the efforts from emergency crews, the child did not survive.
The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
