A suspect who led metro police on a chase for nearly three hours is in trouble with the law again.

Brenton Hager, 25, is back in jail a little over a month since the November pursuit.

Hager is accused of stealing an SUV this week and is in the Oklahoma County Jail on stolen car complaints.

Police caught up with Hager at a Northwest Oklahoma City hotel. The hotel employee who checked him in said Hager even joked about getting a discount because he is the guy who ran from the law, meaning the bizarre, high-speed chase Hager led authorities on for hours.

The manager said he contacted police.

Officers learned the SUV Hager drove to the hotel was reported stolen. Police returned to Hager's hotel room Thursday morning to make an arrest.

“They did recognize him, knocked on the door, he refused to come out,” said Msgt. Gary Knight, Oklahoma City Police Department. “At that point his bail bondsman contacted him to surrender himself, which he did.”

Police said the 2007 Jeep Liberty was stolen from an apartment complex. The owner said he left the SUV running Tuesday morning.

“I went outside to warm my car up, let it run for a little bit and went back inside,” said Kevon Halstead, car theft victim. “I came out and the car was gone. I couldn’t believe it so I went back inside and I came out again and it was still gone.”

Halstead was shocked to learn the man accused of stealing the vehicle is behind the hours long pursuit.

“What if I would have come out and he was still in the car and something could have happened there,” said Halstead. “So, I’m just glad everything happened the way it did. He’s caught, the car is found.”

After learning of Hager's arrest, the Cleveland County District Attorney said he requested Hager's bond there to be increased to one million dollars.

Hager is charged with multiple crimes stemming from the high-speed chase.
