Despite poor weather conditions, Oklahoma City voters turn out to overwhelmingly approve all facets of an $835 million bond issue proposal aimed at providing for municipal needs.
The Oklahoma County Election Board said all 11 propositions that were part of the bond issue proposal passed. City property tax is not set to increase.
At one point, voters were greeted by flashlights and candlelight at 20 of the precincts. The bonds include money for street maintenance, resurfacing and improved drainage systems, among other projects.
City officials, led by Mayor Mick Cornett, had touted the vote as being critical to the city's future. Since voters approved the Metropolitan Area Projects tax in 1996, it has become routine for quality-of-life proposals put forth by city leaders to pass.
