Although the Lunar New Year is still two weeks away, the Vietnamese American community is celebrating a little early.
More than 1,000 came out to celebrate the festivities and a new year. The community celebrated the New Year with red firecrackers and the traditional dragon dance which is believed to fend off bad spirits and is a sign of good things to come.
"Good year that means happiness, financial I mean money and health - everything, especially for the children," event Chairman Vinh Nguyen said. "We want to preserve our tradition we want people to remember the root we want people to remember the ancestor."
Remembering their ancestors and learning about their heritage is what brings Jerry Lu back every year.
"What is means to be here - it actually means I'm a part of something because I'm involved with something that I am," Lu said.
