NEWS 9 Weather Team and The National Weather Service
Cold air at the surface will combine with warmer moist air a few thousand feet above the surface to produce light freezing drizzle Thursday. Freezing rain and some sleet will develop throughout the day.
The heaviest precipitation is expected to be located over central and north central Oklahoma, where better lift and moisture will combine. A few thunderstorms will also be possible. The precipitation will likely end by late morning and some areas will warm above freezing.
If a warming occurs, parts of western and southern Oklahoma and northwestern Texas will be removed from the advisory by late morning.
A winter weather advisory means that periods of freezing rain or sleet may cause areas of travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities. Use caution while driving, especially on bridges and elevated roadways.
Oklahoma Department of Transportation offers these tips to drivers Thursday:
* Stay at least 200 ft. behind road clearing equipment.
* Slow down and drive for the conditions on the roadway.
* Be particularly aware of black ice especially on bridges and ramps. Remember they will be the first to freeze.
* Bring a cell phone with emergency numbers - including a road side assistance number.
If you have any questions, call the Oklahoma Highway Patrol by dialing *55 on your cell phone.
