Joel became part of the NEWS 9 family in 2007 as the "high tech guru," appearing on Tech Talk every Thursday during the 5 p.m. newscast. He has created easy-to-understand explanations of consumer electronics since 1985 for business training videos and is now bringing his expertise to television.
Though he grew up in New Jersey, Joel has been in the Southwest for over 25 years. His career in electronics started with repairing TVs, radios and air conditioners when he was just 15 years old and still attending Cranford High School in N.J. After graduating from Ithaca College in N.Y. with a degree in broadcast journalism and a minor in education, he went on to sell electronics; manage electronic repair centers in five states; buy electronics for a major electronics chain; and developed his own products.
He has brought hundreds of products to market such as cordless phones, answering machines, numerous adaptors, cables, toys, car, portable audio products and two-way radios, to list a few. Joel was also issued a U.S. patent for his method of illumination for electronic cameras.
Joel continues to develop new products for an electronics manufacturer in Oklahoma City. He spends his spare time with his "all girl" family and maintaining their household with all the things his girls manage to break. He also enjoys occasionally appearing as an actor in films, TV shows and commercials.
