A Purcell Police officer was charged on Tuesday for allegedly hitting his 16-year-old stepson and wife on New Year's day. Sergeant David Adams has not been arrested, but a warrant is out for his arrest.

"It's very serious when anyone get accused of domestic violence, but a veteran police officer gets accused of domestic violence...it's extremely serious," said Kevin Williams, Purcell Police Department chief.

Police said Adams' wife denies the allegations and the family had no comment.

Officers with the Lexington Police Department said Adams admitted to hitting the boy after tempers flared over a family prank gone bad.  They also acknowledged this isn't the first time Adams has been under investigation. Police were called to the family's Lexington home for a similar incident four years ago

"Charges were sought at that time, but there were no charges filed through the D.A.'s office," said Deana Standridge, chief of Lexington Police Department.
