Former State Representiatve Opio Toure died Monday morning of congestive lung failure at St. Anthony's hospital. He was 53 years old.

A long life in the State House of Representatives, Toure was a representative for the 99th District of Oklahoma serving Oklahoma City for more than 10 years. He served as the Democrat Floor Leader and acted as co-chair of the Oklahoma County Democratic Party.

"We are all saddened today by the loss of our good friend, Representative Toure, who was a consummate champion for social rights in Oklahoma," Rice said.  "He will be remembered as someone who fiercely represented the needs of the people he represented in Oklahoma City. There was a spirit of kindness and goodness to him that will be missed."
