Rascal Flatts guitarist Joe Don Rooney went home to Picher on Tuesday to survey the damage in the area and help with the relief efforts, he said.
"It's tough. It's kind of a sad time end to a lot of difficult change that's been happening in Picher over the last 20 some odd years now," he said.
Rooney's parents lived in Picher until last summer when they took part in the government's Superfund buyout.
Rooney is encouraging donations to the American Red Cross, and he's promising that proceeds from the Rascal Flatts upcoming concert in September at the Tulsa BOK Center will go to Picher tornado victims.
