GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) -- It could be a powerless 4th of July for some storm-struck areas of Michigan.

CMS Energy says about 144,000 of its customers still have no electricity, and that service in some rural and hard-hit areas is not expected to be restored until Saturday or even Sunday.

In the Detroit area, DTE Energy says about 25,000 of its customers are without power. Water on freeways also disrupted the morning rush hour commute.

Rainfall of five inches was reported in the Grand Rapids area. The Grand Rapids Press says police were sent to help drivers whose cars had stalled in flooded streets.

The storm system also brought heavy rain late July 2 and early July 3 to parts of Ohio, including Toledo, where more than three inches of rain fell.

To the west, a tornado damaged some Iowa farm buildings late July 2, but no one was hurt.
