Tan & Tone

JULY 7TH

So I can't believe I'm doing this; volunteering to lose weight and workout on television for all of Oklahoma City to see.  Not to mention watching all of my "wobbly bits" (thanks Bridget Jones for that lovely phrase) jiggle on those machines at Tan and Tone.  My only hope is that I will see a significant difference in one month.  At least then I will not have embarrassed myself for nothing! So here's my deal.  I started OU in the fall of 2003.  I gained the typical freshman 15.  That quickly turned into the sophomore 30, junior 40 and senior 50.  That's right ... in four short years, I managed to gain 50 pounds.  I thought when I stepped into the real world, I would shed the pounds.  It turns out my schedule only got more hectic.  Working overnights leaves much to be desired.  I'm typically hopped up on caffeine when I'm awake, and taking something to make me fall asleep when my head hits the pillow in the morning.  Most of my diet is fast food that I eat late at night.  This wasn't always the case, but gradually I've turned into a really unhealthy person.  It is time for that to change.  Hence, why I signed up for all of you to watch me!

So I went to my first session.   Not so bad it turns out.  I expected it to be a little gimmicky, but truthfully I really did get a workout.  By the end of the 28 minutes, I was sweating.  I mean leaving sweat marks on the table, wet sports bra sweating.  The good news ... no tennis shoes and no lunges involved.  I can tell you I am actually sore in strange places.  It turns out there are little muscles all over my body I never knew I had.  For a bit, I was working with a personal trainer.  I loved him, but my pocketbook didn't.  While I don't feel that I am getting as good of a workout, it is $35 per session for personal training verses about $35 per month for Tan and Tone. Bottom line, in just about one year I will be standing in a church, watching my very best friend marry a wonderful young man.  I want to be able to enjoy every moment of the wedding weekend, not worrying about the proper under garments that shape, tuck and flatten.  That's a tough order since I'll be standing in between a tri-athlete and one of the most beautiful, thin people you will ever meet.  My plan is to make it to Tan and Tone 5 days per week.  I also want to try and walk for at least 30 minutes 3 days each week.  I'll let you know how my first full week of the plan goes.
