STRINGTOWN, Okla. -- A man serving life without parole for killing his mother was found dead in his prison cell.

State prison officials said Monroe Plumlee, 48, was found unresponsive Tuesday in the cell at the Mack Alford Correctional Center in Stringtown.

Department of Corrections spokesman Jerry Massie said an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

Plumlee was convicted of first-degree murder in LeFlore County in the butcher knife stabbing death of his mother.
